Special Ordered Drills

Drills for non-metals:

Pool cues, woodwinds, plastic, composite, etc. "X" in field 15 of part number. All to be .0015”/inch back taper, R-3 Contour, N-8 nose grind unless otherwise noted. Lathe applications: determine “side air” (in tailstock) driver or “rear air” (on carriage) driver. Pipe tap 1/8” (side air), 1/8"or 1/4” (rear air). Drills for export may require 1/8” or ¼” BSPT, confirm before manufacture. Pricing: Add $20.00/drill for “side air”
• Pricing:
Add $10.00/drill for “side air in” drivers. No additional cost for rear air driver on standard delivery.

Ball Nose, cone, or corner radius drills:

Round hole tips ONLY! R-3 Contour. "J" full ball nose, "X" others in field 15 Forming drills should follow a standard gun drill and finish the hole bottom only. Size at .0005” to .001” under the first drill diameter.
• Pricing:
Add $20.00/drill to .500”, $30.00 per drill to 1.000”, quote above 1” diameter

Step drills:

Round hole tips ONLY! "B" in field 13 of part number A step drill should be a transition drill between hole diameters, not drill a hole to depth. Major to Minor diameter greater than 15%, a special tip is required, (coolant hole positioned to the minor diameter) Major to Minor diameter less than 15%, a standard round hole tip or rod can be used. Shallow included angle (example, 30° included). A longer than standard length round hole tip is required. Do both diameters cut? Or, a cutting major, minor pilot? Or, a cutting minor, major pilot? What transition angle? R-3 Contour on step drills over .250" diameter. R-2 Contour under .250" drilling difficult materials.
• Pricing:
Up to 1" diameter: If standard tip can be used, add $30.00 per drill when both diameters cut or add $20.00 if a non-cut pilot. Quote step drills with diameters over 1". A special step tip adds the additional price of the step tip over a standard tip. Allow three weeks to acquire special carbide.

Extra length tip:

"C" in field 13 of part number, specify length. Gun drills under .500" with tips cut from rod. Larger diameters require tip quote, additional cost to grind.
• Pricing:
Add $10.00 / drill to .500" diameter. quote above.

Gun Reamers:

GR--- fields 1 & 2 of part number Determine “Chips Ahead” (round tube, through hole applications), or “Chips Back” (standard ‘V’ tube, blind hole applications). "Chips Ahead" drills use heat treated round tube on .715” and smaller diameters. Allow one week + manufacture. The hole through the tip is plugged so coolant exits at the base of the tip to force chips forward. "Chips Back" drills are used in blind holes or plugged end through holes. Operation is similar to a standard gun drill. R-2 Contour on .250” and under reamers, R-4 Contour above.
• Pricing:
$10.00 additional for “Chips Ahead” up to .750”. Quote larger diameters. Standard pricing on "Chips Back"

Very short gun drills:

Gun drills shorter than our shortest standard length should be built on smaller than standard tube size. One diameter smaller on drills to 5/8” dia., up to two sizes smaller on larger. Price at the shortest standard length.

Gun drills with inner tube:

GT--- fields 1 & 2 of part number Gun drills 1 1/8" and larger with our Spraymist System. An inner tube maintains mist atomization. If used with our 35mm bore tool holder (TH-34 or TH-37), fit drill with “J” driver (new drills).
• Pricing:
Add $20.00 per drill (new drill). $20.00 + driver change on conversions.

Special gun drill drivers:

Letter ref. from G/D number system list in field 12 or "X" for special, describe. Fit metric "G" 16 x 40mm, "H" 25 x 50mm, or "J" 35 x 60mm drivers to fit our stationary and rotary tool holders. Use the appropriate reduction sleeve when available. Special drivers: detail all requirements or provide a drawing.
• Pricing:
Driver change is $20.00 per drill to 1" diameter. Quote driver changes or special drivers on larger diameters.

Solid Flute gun drill drivers:

GS --- fields 1&2. Letter ref. from S/F number system list in field 12, or "X" for special, describe. Quote any driver larger or longer than the 1/2” diameter standard. Allow 15mm (.6") for spigot length + driver length.

Two Flute drill ordering:

All applications must be reviewed prior to order. Drills for Cast Iron should have 45 deg. outer corner break on nose grind.

Diameter conversion:

If tip to tube range allow, at least a .008” diameter change guarantees diameter. Less, no guarantee. R-3 Contour drills can convert to R-1. R-1 cannot convert to R-3 unless there is greater than a .008” diameter change.
• Pricing:
Add $20 to .750”, $30 to 1.125”, and $40 to 1.625”. 1 – 2 days to ship.
